SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT SEEKS TO TRADEMARK DOT-SG
The Singapore government, through the Singapore Network Information Centre, has applied for a trademark registration of the dot-sg domain. The move is raising concern in Singapore that the government is seeking to strengthen its control over the country-code domain.

NOMINET LAUNCHES ACTION AGAINST DOMAIN NAME SELLER
Nominet, the UK domain name administrator, has launched a suit against Domain Registrar Services, a registrar that has been the subject of consumer complaints regarding sales tactics. Nominet's action is based on trademark infringement and passing off as it wants to block any connection between itself and DRS.

CONGRESS PASSES 'DOT-KIDS' LEGISLATION
The US Congress has passed a final version of the Dot-Kids Implementation and Efficiency Act, which calls for the creation of a dot-kids domain within America's dot-us addressing space. The dot-kids legislation represents a step back from an earlier proposal calling for the creation of a stand-alone dot-kids suffix to be included in the DNS.

SOUTH AFRICA TO ANNOUNCE DOT-ZA PANEL
The South African Department of Communications will announce a panel that will guide the development of the dot-za domain next week. The Department has confirmed that the panel will include Mike Lawrie, the current dot-za administrator, who has been consistently opposed to government control of the domain.

ICANN BOARD APPROVES CCTLD AGREEMENTS

EC SETS DOT-EU TIMETABLE
The European Commission has announced that it hopes to select a non-profit organization to run the dot-eu domain by early December. Less than 10 registrar proposals have been received thus far.

THAILAND TO SWITCH DOT-TH ADMINISTRATION
The Thailand National Science and Technology Development Agency has announced that it plans to create a new agency to manage the dot-th domain. The new agency will be known as the Thailand Internet Domain Name Agency and should be operational by the spring.
